Drinks with IT: June Edition

Drinks with IT is our series of episodes where IT professionals guest star on the podcast, we crack open a cold one and let the conversation flow naturally. Our goal with these chats is to let you be a fly on the wall during our conversations so you can get an idea of the types of things IT professionals talk and care about.
In this episode of Drinks with IT, we were joined by two IT professionals from Canada and South Africa. Here are some things we talked about!
Differing countries’ schedules ⇨ Having such a diverse crowd on the podcast gave a new perspective on what calendar and fiscal years look like. Where American school schedules go from August to May, Canada goes from September to June and the South African school year is in session from January to December. These differing schedules give IT professionals from these countries very different change windows and plans for accomplishing goals.
Liquor ⇨ It wouldn’t be Drinks with IT if we didn’t discuss drinks! We talked about South Africa’s lockdown on alcohol over Covid and the difficulty of getting it throughout this time. Drink costs also vary in different countries, giving an incentive to visit America where alcohol costs much less.
Previous interests ⇨ IT professionals come in all shapes and sizes and with all sorts of interests. Many MSPs came from a music, photography or art background and found themselves with a passion for technology. You never know what you’re going to run into in the IT department
Technology security ⇨ It’s safe to say that people have adapted to new technology—some more than others. Some people have embraced this new technology completely while others feel unsafe. Someone is always listening to our conversations, whether it be for Siri’s sake or for advertising purposes. If you’ve received ads for something that you were just talking about, then you know what we’re talking about.
We loved chatting about these topics and more! Listen to this week’s episode of Humanize IT to get the full conversation.
